i turned in jack's on the road back into the library last monday.
i feel stagnant.
Just holding the book makes you feel as if you are on the road making yet another trip across the usa w/o money..
I miss that book.
one of the more stranger lines from the book is jack's description of how the gang entered into NYC on new years i belive it was..
(not an exact quote) We roared in like a bunch of crazy Arabs trying to blow up New York.
i read that 2 weeks after 9-11 in the 1st floor of the language building. amazing how jack wrote that.
i miss hearing about crazy fucked up dean and his crazy women and traveling across the USA and then later to mexico..
i need to buy that book.

i know the feeling exactly.
when i finish reading on the road i just start over at the beginning, i HAVE to. you cannot just let that wonderful piece of american beat literature just sit on the shelf and collect dust. even if i'm reading ten other books at the time, i'm always reading on the road.
always.

Date: 2001-11-10 11:34 am (UTC)"we went our separate ways, then at ten paces turned back at ten paces, for love is a duel."
and
"what is that feeling when you see the tiny specks receding on the plain? it's the too-huge world vaulting us, and it's good-by. so we lean forward into the next crazy venture beneath the skies"
and
"think if you and i had a car like this what we could do. do you know that there's a road that goes all the way down mexico to panama?--and maybe all the way to the bottom of south america where the indians are seven feet tall and eat coccaine on the mountain side. yes! you and i, sal, we'd dig the whole world with a car like this because, man, the road must eventually lead to the whole world. ain't nowhere else it can go, right?"
those aren't exact quotes, but i know that you know what i'm talking about. everything is going to the beat, it's the beat generation, it's the beat to keep, it's the beat of the heart, it's being beat and down in the world and like old-time low down...
