don't you think that maybe the President and the Prime Minister are probably privy to a whole lot more information than you and I are?

why do you think we need proof that an insane dictator is lying to us?

and as far as it being their job to divulge the truth to us, I tend to think that's true until you reach a point where it might endanger the security of our and other nations, then it's best to keep your hand close to your vest.

i'm no more for war than any sane person, but I'm hopeful and fairly sure that our leader has all the best intentions and isn't the bumbling war monger so many close minded liberals are just itching to make him out to be.

actually it's absurd...but that's besides the point.

and if you want to talk about breaking international laws and basically ignoring any sort of rule, than Saddam is the man you point to.

he's been given every chance to redeem himself and he continues not to.

and the fact that we sold them weapons has little to do with the fact that they've now fallen into irresponsible hands.

i won't argue about the sketchy details of US companies making money off the rebuilding of Iraq because it is shady and it is probably hypocritical but it's simply the way things have been since the beginning of conflict and war itself. to the victor goes the spoils...sad but true.

And, incidentally, it's not at all like sending someone to the electric chair who may or may not have comitted murder...it's like sending someone to the electric chair who definitely has comitted murders and may or may not have commited one more that we're not sure of.

and that's really not something I can disagree with.

unfortunately, in the real world you've got to break some eggs to make an omelette and in this case, although it's sad, the eggs that are going to be broken to depose a violent dictator are iraqi.

if he cares about the people like he claims to, he will leave and no one will be harmed.

again, I have no doubt that war is sinister and evil and unfortunate. it's just my belief that sometimes justice has to be cruel to be effective.

how about using chemical agents against the Kurds in the 90s?

is that not evidence?

non-compliance with weapons inspectors, a greatly less than truthful declaration of weapons and cat and mouse games with the UN for 12 long years ought to be evidence enough for ANY reasonable person.

anyways, i'm going to bed...

you know your shit, though, and the back and forth was fun and thought provoking, sir.

How do you publicly destroy missiles you've claimed to not have then?

[identity profile] crainedaddy.livejournal.com 2003-03-17 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
And the reason it's not about South Korea right now is because we're just at the beginning of their time-line of opposition and they've got a lot of slack in the line they can run out until they've been as unerringly against freedom as Saddam has been for the last 12 years.

But if it does come time to deal with them, they wouldn't be able to fight back any better than Iraq would with the US and the UK breathing down their necks so denoting our choice to 'pick on' Iraq as any sort of cowardice by our nation is specious reasoning and nothing more.

the point is: we've give Saddam chance after chance and we're just now getting into it with S. Korea.

And they might have nukes, but as far as getting to the point where they'd be able to use them, that's another story.

hehehe, that shirt is funny.
a friend of mine has one that is black and has a picture of bush on it and in white letters "NOT MY PRESIDENT" and i think that is priceless.
i've got a pin that says "BUll SHit" and the BUSH part is really big and the llit part is tiny. it's from senior bush era!
