About tech writing: Keep your options open, but know that tech writing is absolutely NOTHING like creative writing or even writing essays for lit. And you generally have to have a knowledge in some other area (some type of science field or SOMETHING, you know) to be a tech writer. At least, that's what I've learned from looking into it.

my dad's a science writer at a major university and he started when i was a wee little kid without having any experience in physical science and he has adapted quite well. you do get to write lots and depending on where you are, your projects will vary greatly. but, if you like creative non-fiction, i'd say go for it!
